I had the great privilege of working from our Minneapolis/St Paul, Minnesota operation this week, helping with our warehouse and logistics service operation. Unfortunately, I wasn’t entirely prepared for the crippling cold of the polar vortex. But as I spent most of my life in the Minneapolis St Paul area it was not a problem getting to work. Also, all our team showed up to work without many issues.
The polar vortex is affecting logistics, shipping, and passenger transportation services across the Midwest.
Amtrak announced Tuesday that it would be canceling all rail service to and from Chicago on Wednesday amid the effects of the polar vortex.
The USPS announced Tuesday that no mail will be delivered Wednesday in Iowa, Minnesota, North and South Dakota, western Wisconsin and western Illinois. Some retail offices of the postal service will be open, but couriers won’t be delivering any mail to those areas.
Smart Delivery Service warehouse logistics operation continued on this cold winter day without many problems. But our courier service drivers were running late due to heavy snow and cold day. Later in the evening, we taper down our operation because of our safety concerns. As you know, safety is our number one concern when it comes to the courier service business. Our office in Minneapolis is still operating despite temperatures reaching -29ºf in the Minnesota area. Thanks to our office team and our dedicated delivery service is a driving force for their efforts to get packages to our customers. Our warehouse storage team is also working on getting shipments sorted for our customers.
